OPENING NIGHT to Latitude Gallery's FLOTSAM and JETSAM art competition/exhibition is on this Saturday the 8th April 2017 at Latitude Gallery Geraldton 6pm to 930pm VIEW all the ARTWORK created from floating debri that Pia Boschetti The_Girl_Who_Grows_The_Pearl and her team of 26 volunteers collected at the Abrolhos Islands as Part of Clean up Australia Day.
Join us on this evening as we present the winners with their awards.
Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Today Zanah the manager of the gallery asked me why I like doing the Young Jewellers Award… I had to sit back and question myself and my motivation.
Firstly back 3 years ago we started our Young Jewellers Award competition. Initially it was because we like to promote and encourage the freedom to create and we thought it would be great to offer this to a group of students and of course we like holding exhibitions. Last year it was about promoting how the students had advanced with the jewellery and it definitely was more professional.

Today 5 Camp Quality families arrived at the Abrolhos Islands. Each family is getting to spend 3 nights staying in the camps out here with a host family, a host family is a resident on the islands who is either a fisherman or Aquaculturalist.
If you wind back 5 years ago I remember Steve Pawelski - who describes himself as a Yuna boy, farmer and Camp Quality volunteer was asking me for photos of the Abrolhos Islands so he could approach his head office to try and convince them that it would be fantastic to take the Camp Quality families...
Do you believe you can learn to paint in 3 hours?
Jayne Rolinson the Artist popped into the gallery and was explaining to me that she can teach people to paint a picture in 3 hours and it will be worthy of hanging on a wall. I jumped at the challenge to attend the class and to also hold the classes at our Latitude Gallery Geraldton. What caught my attention was can someone like me really learn to paint in 3 hours?
